Braun wins award from Northwestern Mutual

          Steven L. Braun, CLU, has received a Master Achievement Award from Northwestern Mutual.

          Braun is a wealth management advisor with Northwestern Mutual’s McTigue Financial Group in Northbrook, Ill.

          According to a news release, “The award places Braun among the premier Northwestern Mutual financial professionals across the country and recognizes his ability to build a strong practice with capable staff to deliver quality service to his clients.”

          Northwestern Mutual is the marketing name for The Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company, Milwaukee, Wis., and its subsidiaries.

 
Strauss receives Sterling Award

          Judith Strauss, L.P.C., psychotherapist at Jewish Family Services, was awarded a Sterling Award by Interfaith Older Adult Programs at its award program on Aug. 27.

          The Sterling Awards recognizes workers 60 years of age and older who have significantly impacted their employer, community-at-large and their peers.

          Strauss received the Spirit of Work Award, which acknowledges a part or full-time worker who embraces and engages peers and staff in the course of their work. Other criteria for the recipient of the award included: giving without being asked, having passion for all they do and striving to create a work environment that is enjoyable, stimulating and productive.

          An employee of JFS for more than 30 years, Strauss has served as vice-president of program services, vice-president of counseling and clinical services and director of exceptional needs; and she twice was named the agency’s acting executive director.

          For her exemplary service, JFS previously gave her the Ralph Sherman Staff Award, and the Milwaukee Jewish Federation honored her with its Mel Zaret Award for Outstanding Jewish Professional.

 
Velleman hired for Birthright Israel

          Jake Vellman has been hire as assistant director of Taglit-Birthright Israel at Hillel: The Foundation for Jewish Campus Life, based in Washington, D.C.

          In that position, he will be responsible for overseeing the program, which sends thousands of students on free 10-day trips to Israel.

          Vellman is originally from Appleton and is the son of Debra and Anthony Vellman of Waukesha.

 
JCC hires Witt as aquatics director

          Tara Witt has been hired as aquatics director at the Harry & Rose Samson Family Jewish Community Center.

          Originally from Arlington Heights, Ill., Witt most recently worked as a consultant in leadership development and team effectiveness. Prior to that, she was a health educator at the Robert Crown Center for Health Education in Hinsdale, Ill.

          Witt graduated from the University of Iowa with a bachelor’s degree in health promotion and a minor in psychology and Spanish. Witt swam competitively from ages 6-18, and taught private and group swim lessons and lifeguarding in high school and at the University of Iowa.
