Letter to the editor

To the editor:

The Jewish people in America have for too long, and too often, ignored our needs and focused on the needs of others.

We broke bread with some who were not our friends, but we hoped that maybe they could like us anyway. We have too often forgotten that we are important, too. We marched for causes. We supported Palestinian needs, even if it meant turning our backs on Israel. Meanwhile, colleges and universities have not provided a safe space. Hamas sympathizers must not rule our educational institutions.

It is time to care for ourselves, because look at our plight now. The streets and schools block our ability to indulge in a way of life that is critical to our survival. Hiding is not an option. We need to stand up for one another, with a kind of
Jewish buddy system, to give us a greater avenue to safety. We need a fighting spirit.
