Defining genocide
“Defining Genocide: Lemkin’s Life and Legacy.” Raphael Lemkin was the architect of the United Nation’s 1948 Genocide Convention – a word and international law that the world lacked and sorely needed during the Holocaust. As a Holocaust survivor himself, Lemkin was driven to see this new law codified and dedicated his entire professional life to this mission. In honor of International Holocaust Remembrance Day, we will come together to investigate Lemkin’s actions and advocacy. Featured speakers: Dr. Neal Pease – professor emeritus, history, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee; Samantha Abramson – executive director, the Nathan and Esther Pelz Holocaust Education Resource Center. Sunday, Jan. 26, 2025, 12:30-1:30 p.m. Polish Center of Wisconsin, 6941 S 68th St. More info: HolocaustCenterMilwaukee.org.
